A unitized seal is a dual action seal. The inner part stays fixed on the spindle and the outer casing rotates with the hub. This type of seal has less wear and tear and provides better leak protection.

Unitized Oil Seal for Trailer Hubs - 10-63

Average Customer Rating:  4.9 out of 5 stars   (46 Customer Reviews)

by:

I just changed my hus on my 5th wheel from grease to oil bath from trailer. The kit do do so included these oil seal. As a after thought I wanted a backup set of seal just in case. I thought the price was alittle high but I didn't have time to explore the internet for a lower price so I ordered a set. I may never have to use them but I have peace of mind that they are onboard.

by:

Installation was without issue and they are working like a champ!

by:

I really like these seals, they cost more, but they do an excellent job of oil control, the only disadvantage is if you remove the hub, the seal is probably not going to be reusable, my ratio is about 50/50 but careful patient disassembly helps. I highly recommend this seal for hub rotors that are oil bath, not for drums that are grease and need removal to change brakes. I put about 80k miles on my trailer per year, very happy with the performance

by:

The cheap single lip oem seals all leaked grease onto the brake shoes, what a mess! These oil bath seals are well worth the money and do not leak.

by:

Need to ship in better packaging. Boxes came in with holes. Parts were missing.
Replacement parts were sent out but the job is now delayed waiting on the parts.

by:

Purchased these for spares after using the last spares redoing my bearings. I try to ALWAYS have a spare set on hand. Not exactly the same as the previous ones but will certainly do the job.

by:

I haven't had it long so can't speak of the longevity, the quality looks good and it figs perfect and works as we speak

by:

Exactly what was needed. Installed fine. Outstanding customer service by etrailer.com. I was in a rush, needed the part overnight and my rep watched the order, told me when it shipped and followed it through until it was in my hands. Can't ask for anything more!!

Customer service ++

by:

This seal is of better quality then any other seals I have had in the past, these should last a lifetime. This place has good prices on some hard to find parts, can get almost anything you need, reasonable shipping with lots of options.

by:

This oil seal is a one time use. If you remove it the internal spring pops out.

by:

Great to do business with. Always get what I need when I need it. Ricky at Etrailer is on top of my favorites list.

  • Unitized Oil Seal for Trailer Hubs Installation and Lowest Price Pledge
The item you selected, while having the right measurements, is not a unitized oil seal. We do carry the 10-63 unitized oil seal (see link). Installing the seal requires pressing the seal flush or slightly into the hub. I normally use a wooden block to seat the seal flush with the back side of the hub. We have an install video for you to watch that shows installation of a grease seal. Normally flush installation is correct unless Tie Down Engineering specifies differently.

  • Replacement Grease Seal For a Dexter Hub On a 2,200LB Trailer Axle
The Grease Seal # 10-9 is the size used on a Dexter 2,200LB Hub Assembly # 8-258-50UC1-EZ. This seal has the same 1.5" ID but only a 1.987 OD. We do not have any seals with a 2.080" OD at this time or that are entirely rubber for an oil seal like the Unitized Oil Seal # 10-63 you found.

  • Parts Needed for Hydraulic Drum to Disc Brake Conversion
The axle spec didn't come through, but that isn't an issue as Dexter has clear fits for their 7K axles. The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 13" Hub/Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - E-Coat - 7,000 lbs # K2HR79E you asked from is a confirmed fit. You will need to purchase the bearings and grease seal or oil seal separately as they aren't included. # 25580 # 02475 # RG06-070 for grease seal or # 10-63 for oil seal You can use the same brake lines as used for your drum brakes as long as you have a small flexible...

  • Replacement Hub and Drums For PJT Trailer With 008-393-03 Installed
Thanks for all of the information on your PJT Trailer! Based on your drum part number you have a 12-1/4" Drum that is oil bath. The Dexter # 8-393-4UC3 is almost right, but it is designed for grease and not oil. You will need the # 8-393-4UC3 and oil seal # 10-63 for each hub. This hub does not include the bearings so you will also need new inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 02475 for each hub. If you need replacement brakes now or in the future you will need # 23-428-429 for...

  • Correct Oil Seal for Dexter 10K 8-214-5UC1 Hub/9-27 Brake Drum
The 9-27 (it's 9-27-1, actually) brake drum is part of a 2 piece hub/drum that uses # 8-214-5UC1 for the oil bath hub assembly. The correct oil seal is part # 10-56. The seal has an OD of 4.5 inches, and an ID of 3.125 inches. The # 10-63 you'd mentioned is too small, as its typically used with 8K capacity axles, so it wouldn't be compatible.

Yes, using oil bath hub seals # 10-63 will work with the Kodiak disc brake kit you ordered, # K2HR79E. The kit already has the oil caps so you wouldn't need those. The brake kit does not include the bearings. You would need 2 of # 25580 and 2 of # 02475.

The seals included in the Bearing Kit # BK3-200 you were looking at are only designed for hubs that use grease. Correct, although the TruRyde Seal part # RG06-070 has the same dimensions as the Dexter Seal part K71-386-00, the TruRyde is for grease and the Dexter is for oil. The Dexter Seal part K71-386-00 cross-references to our Unitized Oil Seal for Trailer Hubs part # 10-63.

  • Removal and Installation of a Unitized Oil Seal for a Trailer Oil Bath Hub
Unitized oil seals such as # 10-63 for example are different than regular grease seals. Unitized seals have an inner part that stays fixed to the spindle on the axle and its outer case rotates with the trailer hub. You would remove and reinstall a new one the same way you would with a regular seal. The best tool to use for unitized seals is a seal removal tool which you should be able to get at a local auto parts store. Once you pry out the old seal, place the new one in the hub. Use a...

This will give you the 1/2 inch lugs but not the oil bath as you mentioned. For this assembly, I recommend the # BK3-200 Bearing kit. For easy maintenance and monitoring, I recommend the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors - Model 2441 - Chrome Plated (Pair), # BB2441. • Will Double Lip Grease Seal or Unitized Oil Seal do Better Job of Retaining Grease in Hubs
The TruRyde Grease Seal # GS-2250DL referenced in your question is a double lip seal that will do a great job at retaining the grease inside your hubs. They will also exclude water and road grime better than a standard single lip seal. The Redline Unitized Oil Seal # 10-63 you also referenced will do a nice job at providing leak protection with the dual action seal as well. The inner part on the seal will stay fixed on the spindle while the outer casing rotates with the hub. I like this...

There are a few options for oil bath hubs for a boat trailer with 7000lb axles though I will start with saying that oil bath hubs are not recommend for a boat trailer due to the oil braking down very fast when water is introduced unlike grease. The first is a disc brake option which is the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit - 13" Hub/Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - Dacromet and Stainless - 7,000 lbs # K2HR712DS. • Replacement Hub Seal for Dexter 7k Trailer Axle
The interesting thing about Dexter 7k axles is that they could come with two different grease seals with the only difference being the inner diameter of the seal. If the inner diameter is 2.25 inch you'd want the part # 10-63 or if it's 2.125 you'd want # 21325. Easiest way to take this measurement is to pull a hub and measure the spindle where the seal rides.

  • Can Oil Seal be Used in Place of Grease Seal on Trailer Hub
A grease seal like the part # GS-2250DL would be your best option if that is the size you need. You can go to an oil seal like with the Unitized Oil Seal for Trailer Hubs # 10-63 which is same size and it would work but it's not going to be considerably more effective or reliable than a grease seal. It might be a little bit better in how it would work out but the price is much higher.
