Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Universal Fit
  • Trailer Hitch Wiring
  • 4 Flat
  • Converter
  • Tekonsha
  • 1-1/2 Feet Long

Adapts import and domestic vehicles with separate turn and stop lights (3-Wire System) to standard trailer tail light wiring (2-Wire System).

Features:

  • Short circuit protection safeguards itself and the tow vehicle against harmful electrical shorts and mis-wire situations
  • Circuit automatically resets once the module cools
  • Adapts a 3-wire system on the towing vehicle to work with a 2-wire system on the trailer
  • Works with most multiplex wiring systems

Specs:

  • Wire pigtail measures 18" long
  • 4-Pole trailer connector is 60" long from converter box

In a three wire system, a separate wire is used to carry each of the stop, turn, and running light functions to the tail light assembly. On most trailers, the stop and turn signal functions are sent through the same wire.

Warning: Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed:

  • Maximum stop/turn light: 2.1 amps per circuit
  • Maximum tail lights: 7.5 amps

Read vehicle's owners manual and instruction sheet for additional information.

Got the 5 to 4 wire converter for my 2015 Goldwing aand installed it recently. Excellent product with well marked wires. Unit was well sealed from the weather and is working great! Fast shipping too!

Highly recommend etrailer.com

Still working perfectly!

Bill E. was extremely helpful answering my questions and ordering a replacement part that was no longer available from Valley after a wiring converter failed.
Have not had time to install new part but expect no problems.
Received order promptly as well.

Worked great, just what I needed. Very happy with no problems.

Went though multiple adapters from different manufactures for 2000 Toyota tundra in less than a year, installed this unit and it's still working, it is a little more involved but able to locate the main body where road spray won't kill it.

Easy to install and no separate power required. Some of the other taillight converters require a dedicated 12V power source, which means routing power from the battery...not this unit! The unit is easy to install, but it doesn't come with the quick splice connectors, so order those as well if you don't want to solder and heat shrink. I installed this on a 2006 WRX which required partially removing some trunk carpet and 1 piece of trim (4 carpet fasteners and 2 plastic nuts). The demo video on etrailer.com for the 2007 WRX correctly identifies the wire colours (I checked). I have a 3rd brake light on my trailer, so I ran an additional brake light wire to the 5 pole plug I installed in place of the flat 4 connector that comes with this kit. If you aren't worried about scuffing the bumper with the wire hanging out the trunk, the flat 4 will work fine. I drilled a hole in the back panel of the trunk and routed the wires through a grommet and down to a PK11502 Pollak 5 pole socket plug.

It took me a lot of time trying to figure out what I needed to adapt a 6 Pin round to a 4 Pin flat on a 2008 Winnebago View with always on daytime running lights. Brake lights wouldn't illuminate, turn signals worked fine, and DRLs were always on the towed vehicle as well as the View. Normal plug-in adapters won't work and there was no way without an expensive Dealer reprogramming to disable the DRLs.
This baby did the trick, once the brake controller wire was identified it was a simple matter of splicing.

by:

This unit worked well with my 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI. The only thing I had to do to make it work better was to run two relays, one for the running lights and one for the brake lights.

Other than that issue, It's an easy to install and easy to wire type of deal.
Still functioning perfectly a whole year later!

by:

I installed this a year ago on a semi for electric brakes on a trailer. It was easy to install from the directions given by you guys and has worked great. Thanks!

by:

the Tekonsha trailer light module solved the problem of no stop light power to the trailer I was working on. Amy was very helpful and pleasant to work with. I tell everyone if you need anything for trailers just call E Trailer. Joe

by:

Great kit to add to any carI found the instruction easy to understand and I event watched the install video on the site. I am a pretty good elecrical guy so it was no problem for me, but you are going to need to know how to test probe the tailight plugs to find out what wires to connect to. I would suggest not using scotch locks to connect to the wires. Soldiering is the only way to make sure you arent damaging the wires. Good wiring option in a small package.

We ordered lights and an electrical hookup for a 1965 Starcraft Tent Trailer! It came correct and very quick. like four days! Easy and fast!

by:

The staff at etrailer.com had my order filled and at my doorstep in 3 days. Amazing service and one stop shopping for high quality parts. I added them to my favorites list.

Product was just fine but etrailer takes service and training to the next level. Great how-to videos, schematics and diagrams make it very clear on how to install. Thanks!

by:

This converter was exactly what I needed for my Honda trike and I received it in just 2 or 3 days very pleased

by:

I installed this on a 2008 Honda Goldwing. It was an easy install and works as advertised. Great service from e-trailer.

by:

Just what was needed. Excellent quality. Did not expect the electronics to be sealed as well.

Thanks Etrailer.

  • Wiring 2006 Harley-Davidson for Towing a Small Trailer
What you are experiencing can be fixed very easily. Most trailers use what we refer to as a combined lighting system. This means that the signal for the brake lamps and the turn signals are carried on the same circuit. The 4-pole connector on your trailer carries the ground connection on the white wire, the running light signal is carried on the brown wire, the right turn and brake lamp signal is carried on the green wire and the left turn/brake is carried on the yellow wire. Your 2008 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic Anniversary uses a 5 flat because motorcycles have turn signals on different circuits/bulbs than the brake lights. Since your trailer has combined turn signals and brake lights on the same circuit, I recommend The Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 119178, which will combine the separate circuits on the bike to the output side of the connector.. • Is there an Adapter to Go From Semi Style 7-Way to RV Style 7-Way Trailer Connector
Because the functions on a semi 7-Way connector are different than those in the RV industry a regular adapter would not work. Some of the circuits have to be combined so a converter is needed. It would actually be easier to just add an RV style 7-Way on the semi rather than making an adapter as described in the question you referenced. If your semi has combined brake lights and turn signals on the same circuits then you would just need a vehicle side 7-Way such as # 50-87-009 and wire...

  • How to Wire a 2006 Harley Ultra Electra Glide for a 5-Wire Trailer and Isolate the Trailer Lights
We have run into this scenario a few times. There is a solution and it is fairly simple, but it will take some patience and some wiring skills. It is easy to go from 4 to 5, and from 5 to 4, but when you go 5 to 5 but add an isolator is when it takes more time. An isolator, or Powered ModuLite/Converter, does as you say. It isolates the trailer lights so that if something were to happen to the trailer, it would not damage the lights or wiring on the motorcycle. This is the right way to...

  • Towing Motorcycle Trailer with 5-Wire Lighting System with Vehicle with 5-Pole Connector
There are two good ways to accomplish this. You can convert the motorcycle trailer and the motorcycle to a combined system that uses the same light for the brake light and turn signals. The rear lamp assemblies would need to be replaced, and put a converter like part # 119178 on the motorcycle. This way, the trailer can easily be towed by the bike and the vehicle. The other method (which I would recommend) would involve constructing an adapter using the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter,...

The portion of the product description you are referring to states that the trailer converter and wiring, part # 119178, should not be used with vehicles that are equipped with LED lights. Trailers equipped with LED lights are fine. Part # 119178 is fine for both your Altima and Versa as long as they are not equipped with LED tail lights and blinkers.
