Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area. You will have to remove the rear scuff panel and additional trim to access this harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights.
Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Honda

I installed this in my 2012 Honda CRV because my trailer’s running lights stopped working. The product is easy to install because it only has two plugs to connect in addition to an inline fuse, ground wire, and fuse for the car. The only bummer was that the inline fuse prongs were next to each other but the inline fuse plug’s receptors were offset, so I wasn’t sure if the fuse was really making proper contact. But overall, I rate it 5 stars.

by:

This wiring kit was easy to install and has been powering my trailer lights ever since. My only complaint is that the provided adhesive for securing the box in place behind the interior panels was not very sticky and I had to use something else.

by:
Ford Edge

Pretty easy I stall. My only gripe is only able to mount with the tape. I wonder if it will hold up when the car is in the sun. Also when mounted the wires rub against a sheet metal edge which would cut them over time. I covered the edge with Gorilla Tape.

by:

The brake and blinker lights failed and when I metered the connections I was getting about 3 volts. I contacted etrailer about the issue and they want me to troubleshoot it with them but unfortunately I am out of town for an extended period and I do not have tools with me to open up the area that houses the controller. I will update this review when I am in a position to troubleshoot the unit.

by:

the product was supposed to have double stick tap to attach the module to the wall of the car, it did not, it also did not have certain metal screws and the instructions were not adequate.

by:

Once I found the correct connector installing it was simple. This was so much better than splicing it in like we used to do! I think it was money well spent! I would purchase it again if I got another car.

by:

Easy installation. Product arrived on time. No issue with any of this process . I’d buy from here again ..

2012 Honda CR-V

I am still very happy a year out. I was able to easily install the Curt trailer hitch on my 2012 Honda CR-V all by myself. This is the second time that I've purchased a hitch from etrailer and it was an excellent expeirience both times. The product came well-packaged with no parts missing and instructions. The also provided links to ibstructional videos so you can literally follow along as you watch someone guide you. I use my hitch to tow a small 6x4 ft. trailer full of fire wood, leaves, dirt, furniture, and anything else that will fit. Etrailer will be my top consideration anytime I am on the market for vehicle accessories. Great products. Great customer service. Great Company.

Price works great I installed it myself and yes I am a woman, I watch the video and everything went just as it should have I save myself $500 not having a trailer hitch and the wiring done and doing it myself. Thank you so much e trailers

Great! We use the hitch for an electric wheelchair for my 90 year old dad. I’m the one that has to hookup it all on my own. Couldn’t be more pleased with the fit. Thanks for being a great company via the internet. Carolyn a loyal customer

I installed hitch and trailer harness last week on my 2015 CR-V. All aspects of this install went smoothly. I was so impressed with all the info available to me on this install along with the step by step instruction. You've got a great product and great product support. Thank you.

by:

Just what I needed for my CRV. Took about 30 min start to finish to install. Online video was all I needed to get the job done!

by:

Working great - easy to install and can be easily hidden when not in use.

by:

I wired it to the outside of the Crv so I didn't have to open the hatch every time I wanted to pull my trailer. First I cut the trailer plug off a foot from the plug and ran the wires through the grommet in the photo. I had already cut a hole in the underbody and this grommet lead right to this hole. Then I reattached the trailer plug to the wires with shrink wrap connectors and ran the plug right above the hitch. Very clean install and setup I really like it.

by:
2015 Honda CR-V

The trailer hitch and wiring harness arrived in 2 days, which was much quicker than I expected. The installation went smoothly thanks to the detailed instructional videos on etrailer.com. Great products, prices, and service. Thank you etrailer.com.

by:

Nice quality well made. My bolt holes above muffler had some rust so needed to clean those but with 1 person helping got it done just under 2 hours.

by:
2015 Honda CR-V

Here is the final finish of the Curt "T" connector. Wired to my Hidden Hitch I purchased. Ordered a separate bracket to house the four pin plug to give it a cleaner look. Easy to install and looks amazing. Can't wait to try it out.

by:

The hardest part was removing the under car trim panel. Installation was straight forward and completely idiot proof (I'm proof of that). Well built and designed. I highly recommend getting this!

by:

Exceptional service. Fast delivery. Another retailer failed to install a towing wiring harness so I found this product which was exactly what I needed. It came with videos and instructions that made it incredibly easy to install myself.

by:

Thank you for such an awesome experience! Never done this before and watching your video made it really easy to install. My jack had broken so I had to do it from the floor. A little tough but managed without any help. Also, The wiring was cake as well. Perfect demonstration and walkthrough on your video(s). You asked for the pics so I shot a few for you. I've never had a vehicle with a tow hitch so my next goal is a trailer. gotta save for that one :(

Well, once again I want to thank you, guys!

2015 Honda CR-V

Kit fit as described. Struggled to get the black rear panel back on as others had mentioned. Tough to get that gap out as it separates from the other piece near the rear seat. I did stick my connector to come out this hole as in pic below. Sticky tape fell off both sides despite wiping though. Used gorilla glue to help and otherwise all was fine. I'm a novice and it is do-able.

Honda CR-V

Very nice and well made trailer hitch wiring harness for my Honda CRV. Brake, tail lights, turn signal lights tested perfect first try. Cover for plug keeps contact points clean when not in use.

by:
2016 Honda CR-V

Routed the wiring harness through the existing grommet behind the left interior wall panel and then out the existing hold at the bottom of the protective cover.

Love the installation videos! Made installation a snap.

Worked Great, Simply install.

  • 4-Way Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2016 Honda CR-V Plus 7-Way Adapter
We have found that in general Tekonsha trailer wiring harnesses like the part # 118561 are more reliable than the Curt brand like part # C56158. Both of which are a confirmed fit for your 2016 Honda CR-V though. The part # 37185 is the correct adapter to use to convert the 4-way to a 7-way and activate the 12 volt power circuit. If the slot in your fuse box is active and can have a 40 amp fuse installed that is one way to accomplish this. Normally we recommend running the wire straight...
