Video Transcript for Hopkins 7-Way and 6-Way Trailer Connector Universal Mounting Bracket Review

Hi there, Hollers! Today we're gonna be taking a look at Hopkins Universal 6 and 7-Pole Connector Bracket. This bracket is constructed of steel so you can guarantee that it's gonna securely mount your 6 or 7-way connector and it has a black powder coat finish on it that will protect it against rust and corrosion so you can ensure that your bracket's gonna stay mounted up and look good on your vehicle for a long time. Well first thing with the 7-way, you want to look at those cause a lot of them don't come with a mounting solution with your 7-way connector either. If you're adding one to your vehicle it's often a forgotten item and then you've got no way to put this on here. So if you follow along with us we'll show you how to get this bracket installed and we're gonna cover some additional features that makes this bracket a little bit easier to use than some of the competitors. So you're wiring up the 7-way on your truck and now you need a way to actually mount this thing cause you don't want it hanging down just here below.

This is a large connector. It's spring-loaded. We want an easy way to be able to pull this cover open and plug our connector in. Most of your after-mark hitches don't come with any mounting solution, so you're not gonna usually get that with your hitch. And most of your vehicles don't have any mounting solution in the back either unless you have the full tow package, which would already likely come with wiring and things like that.

Now some hitches do come with a tab which allows you to mount a bracket, and this is the bracket we're gonna be using for our 7-way here. But we also need a place for this bracket. And this is a long bracket here that we sell at eTrailer, this clamps around your hitch but you have to look at some of your hitches, they do have that pre-welded on here where there will be a small little bracket like this and it's designed to line up with the holes here from mounting either a 7 or 4-way bracket. The outer holes are typically designed for your 7-way, and that's what lines up with our bracket right here. Now no hardware comes included with your bracket here, but if you get a long bracket you'll get hardware to mount to your bracket up to the long bracket.

You also don't get any hardware for mounting up your 7-way on to the bracket as well. So you'd want to provide your own hardware. A lot of times when you get a 7-way it comes with its own hardware so we're gonna be using the hardware that came with this 7-way. So we can now start installing our bracket. If you look, there's a slit in the bottom of this bracket and this may or may not be useful in your setup.

It depends. You can use it to slide your wiring through. You can see how we can take our 7-way wiring here and we can just work it through the slit. The purpose of this is to you don't have to disconnect your electrical connector from your 7-way when mounting it up. Now if you try to get it on here and you're really fighting it, this one is too skinny. You could disconnect it or rather than disconnecting the work you did, you can just bend the bracket just a little bit and that will allow you to slide your wiring in there and we can just straighten it right back out. Just a little minor bend there is all that we needed and our bracket looks great, everything is still connected and now we can bring it up. Now if we look at our bracket real quick before we connect it, we can see that we've got multiple different holes here and they are slotted, and the purpose of that is to allow it to work just about every manufacturer because the distance for your holes on your 7-way are gonna vary from manufacture to manufacture but we can see here when we line it up, that it lines up with those slots all the way around. So now we're just gonna use the hardware that came included with our long bracket to attach this up here and then we use the hardware that came with our 7-way to attach it there. So we put the bolts on top, and then drop our bolts down through both of the brackets. And then we'll take the nuts on the bottom. These ones have star washers on them, you want the star washers facing towards the bracket. And then we'll snug these up. In most cases, you've got a lot of tight clearance here. You can usually just hold the one and then snug it down with the other and that pressure keeps it from spinning and gets nice and tight. We're using the 3/8 socket for the hardware that came included with the long bracket. Now we'll just line up our 7-way with the slots that work best to give us a nice leveled 7-way. We'll then slide the hardware through. Again, this is the hardware that came included with our 7-way. If you need some you can get some here at eTrailer or at your local hardware store. Once you slide the hardware through there, we're gonna follow that up with a flat washer lock washer in a nut. If you get hardware that has nylon locking nuts you can omit the flat washer and lock washer. Now we can go back into tightening up our hardware it's gonna vary if you've got your own hardware, what it comes with, if you're using a hardware that came with your curt 7-way, you use an 8 mm on the nut and then just the phillips to tighten it down. Now that our 7-way is fully mounted up we're ready to plug it in to our trailer and make sure everything is working properly. And that completes our look at Hopkins Universal 6 or 7-pull connector bracket..

I was having trouble with the review and decided to wait to see how a return would be handled. The product does not come close to fitting the hitch I bought. And though it is described as universal it also isn’t compatible with the Honda OEM wiring Adapter. (etrailers wiring harness was backordered with a long lead time)

It is a universal bracket that will fit most adapters however a few here and there are not a fit. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you.

Didn't realize that Traverse tow wiring kit PN 118271 didn't come with a mounting bracket. Discovered this on a Sunday. Needed a "universal" type like this one. I called eTrailer on Sunday afternoon and Bill went to the warehouse and verified that my Tekonsha 7-way connector would fit on this mounting bracket. It did, and he mailed it to me. Fit's great.

by:

Well made, not rusting and mounted easily. While it did do the intended job adequately, on a 2021 Honda Pilot it places the entire cable assembly and plug directly in the way of the pin for the ball hitch. This means getting the ball in and out of the hitch is very time consuming. Luckily I tow 4 times a year so it’s not the end of the world for me.

by:

Works well. Especially with wiring slit to help with mounting.

by:

Bracket is great the only thing there was no hard wear to install the bracket

by:

I completed the connecting of all the wires to the 7-Way connector that comes in the ETBC7 kit. I used a flexible tubing to enclose all the wiring, which protects it from moisture kicked up from driving it wet or snowy conditions). The ground wire was secured and all the wiring tucked up out of the way and zip-tied into place). This alternate location for the 7-Way connector is much more satisfactory

by:

The Plug holder works well. I had to mount it on the opposite side (Right side) of the receiver because if I mounted it on the receiver where the bracket was, I could install the cover over the receiver. But all worked out fine.

by:

Good product. Mounting holes were a little small for my bolts.

Working very well

by:

I am very happy with all the products and prices of items I have purchased from
etrailer. Item # HM48625 is very well made and easy to use. The slot at the bottom is a excellent addition that makes even easier to use.
Unfortunately I doubt that I will be ordering from etrailer in the future due to there practice of blowing up my computer with pop up's and ads. This practice turns a pleasant experience into a negative one.

by:

Would have been nice to get the bolts nuts and washers with the bracket for the trailer hook up and would have been nice to know that the pins I bought are barely long enough to make it through the mounting bracket required me to bend them to make them fit.

by:

EASY INSTALL FOR HITCH, ALTHOUGH THE 7 WAY WIRING HARNESS 118287 DOES NOT ALLOW FOR THE CENTER PANEL TO GO BACK ON. BRACKET IS HOPKINS HM48625 AND IT SHOULD INCLUDE HARDWARE.

by:

All components exactly as listed. Having [video] clips for mounting a hitch and wiring my 06 Odyssey was outstanding.

by:

Worked as designed, needed to mount 7 pin trailer connector.

by:

Good companion with the trailer hitch.

by:

Perfect for what I needed...so far ALL of the many products I've purchased from etrailer have been great quality with great customer support and services...

by:

A definite must have if you're installing an electrical cable. It really made the installation look professional.

by:

Fit the DrawTite hitch on my Passport p erfectly.

by:

This one fit perfectly! It really is universal. I ordered another style and the bolt pattern didn't fit my 7 pin head. Ordered this one and had it installed in 2 minutes.

by:

easy installation good fit

by:

Paula and Korren were both very knowledgeable and helpful getting me the right parts for my trailer set-up.

by:

It works great, but doesn’t come with any hardware...

by:

Easy to install with clear instructions and well made.

by:

Box is in bad condition . Everything seems to be okay.

by:

Looks Good and isn't rusting what more can I ask for.

by:

Worked exactly the way I expected it to.

  • Parts Needed to Install a 7-way Trailer Connector on a 2012 Nissan Frontier w/o Tow Package
It sounds like you are trying to get a 7-way connector installed on your 2012 Nissan Frontier. For that you would use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118266. This kit plugs directly into the factory connectors on your vehicle. Additional vehicle wiring is not required. You can pick up the Hopkins Universal Mounting Bracket for 7-Way # HM48625 and the Curt No-Drill Bracket # C57202 to mount the 7-way to your hitch. If you are doing this to use a brake controller,...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2020 Honda Pilot
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2020 Honda Pilot is the etrailer # e98840 because it has a tab that is already attached to the crosstube that you can install a bracket for your wing plug on. If you are needing a 4-Way plug for trailer lights I recommend the T-One # 118760 with the bracket # 18144 but if your trailer has a 7-Way connector then you need the T-One # 118286 with the bracket # HM48625 instead. Attached are some installation videos of these products on recent model Pilots...

While you are correct that a wide variety of trailer wiring harnesses do require the installation of a relay, this is not the case for your 2020 Acura MDX. I recommend going with one of our Tekonsha wiring kits because we have found that their converter boxes tend to be the most reliable. For a 4-Way plug you need the T-One # 118628 but for a 7-Way plug you need the T-One # 118289 for a 7-Way plug. That said, you still need a second bracket to attach to this based on if you have a 4 or 7-way trailer connector.
