Modifications Required to Install Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver on 2014 Nissan NV200 Van

Question:

I just bought a new 2014 Nissan NV200 and want a trailer hitch for it. Ive browsed your sight and am a little unclear on whether there needs to be any alterations to the body. Im very mechanically inclined but before purchasing the hitch, Id like to know exactly what needs to be done. Not actuality having the hitch in hand and waiting for delivery of the vehicle only has me guessing. Im planning to use the wiring harness you sell also. That is clear on the install.

We do have confirmed 2-inch hitch fits for your 2014 Nissan NV200 van and all can be seen on the link at right. All share a Class III rating, 3500-lb maximum trailer weight capacity and all install without drilling using included hardware.

Installation of any of these hitches will require temporary lowering of the exhaust and spare tire (for better access to the hitch mounting points). Also all will require some degree of trimming of the underbody fascia panels. Since all three hitches install in exactly the same spot on the vehicle's frame their installation processes will essentially be identical. Given this I recommend the lowest-cost option, part # C13165 from Curt. I have linked two helpful articles that provide hitch installation tips to make the process easier. You will need among other basic tools a torque wrench to tighten the included fasteners to the manufacturer specs indicated in the instructions.

For a wiring harness you can use the custom-fit TowReady harness # 118597 which features plug-n-play connectors that do not require you to cut into your new van's wiring. I have also linked an article concerning how to route the power wire for such a harness.

You might also consider a handy ball mount kit like # 989900 that includes 2 ball mounts, 2 hitch balls and a pin with clip, all in a handy bag. If you need a ball mount with different rise or drop (to get your trailer level when hitched) you can use the linked article on ball mounts to help you select the appropriate one.
