Troubleshooting a Trailer With A Sidewinder that is Towing Slightly Off-Center

Question:

I purchased a new 5th Airborne Sidewinder RP61412 with wedge SWW-04. I love the ride and towing improvement with my 5th wheel. My problem is the new Sidewinder is about 1 1/4 inches off center from the center line of the truck box and Husky hitch when I am towing. The pin box is closer to the passenger side of the truck. The turret rotates so the trailer tows straight and properly. While towing and backing up I notice that the whole pin box at times moves to the center line position but returns to the 1 1/4 in off center line position while towing. Should the pin box be moving? How do I lock in the pin box so it is centered and doesnt move? Any additional information will be appreciated. 2014 2500HD Silverado Husky 16KW hitch Forest River 293RL Surveyor 5th wheel with LIPP1716 pinbox

It sounds like the problem is in the wedge you have installed on your Sidewinder. Since you had an RV dealer install both of these products I would recommend you take it back to the dealer you bought it from and explain to them what it is doing. Most likely something in the way the wedge is set up is causing the issue you are describing.

It sounds like there is just a tiny bit of play between the wedge and the jaws of your hitch which is allowing the Sidewinder to move from the centerline.
