When flat-towing any vehicle, there are 5 things that are needed. You will need base plates that are attached to the front of the towed vehicle. You also need a tow bar that is compatible with the base plates, safety cables, wiring for the lights on the towed vehicle, and most states now require a supplemental brake system. A quick answer for you is that you will not be able to use the tow hooks at the front of the truck for flat-towing with a tow bar.
You may find that the tow bar you mentioned, part # RM-501, is compatible with your truck, but it does depend on the model of your 2012 Ford F-150.
I have attached some articles you can check out that explain flat-towing and what is needed.
If you want to let me know what type F-150 you have, I will be happy to make some recommendations that will work for you. The type base plates you will need depend on the body style. There are several styles of F-150. I have attached a link to our product page for base plates you can take a look at. You can use the drop down box and select the type truck you have.
