Parts Needed to Tow a 2007 Jeep Wrangler with Rugged Ridge Bumper Behind a Motor Home

Question:

I see that you recommend the RM-520 for the Jeep, I have the after market Rugged Ridge bumper and do not need the crossbar. Is there another tow bar you recommend or have a part number for this one without the crossbar?

First, for your 2007 Jeep Wrangler with the Rugged Ridge bumper, there is only one base plate kit that will fit. You will need Roadmaster base plates # 1437-3. The bumper part number will have to be 11540-10 or 11540-11. If it is a different part number then none of the base plates will fit. I have included a link to the instructions to the right.

On these base plates you can only use Roadmaster motor home mounted tow bars. I recommend the Falcon 2, # RM-520, that you mentioned. It is the most popular option. All of the Roadmaster motor home mount tow bars come with the crossbar. You just will not use it with these base plates. Even with the crossbar the Falcon 2 is the most cost effective option.

You will also need safety cables, # RM-643 and a lighting kit. A popular lighting kit option is the bulb and socket kit # RM-155. You will want to check the Jeep owners manual because it looks like you will have to disconnect the battery to flat tow it.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the most popular options for Jeep owners is the Invisi-Brake proportional system # RM-8700. It will apply the Ram brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

In order for the braking system to work properly you will also need stop light switch kit # RM-751452.

Be sure to consult your Jeep owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
