Low-Profile Roof Cargo Basket for Use on Jeep TJ Hardtop

Question:

I have a Jeep TJ hard top its flat to which Id like to mount a low-profile roof basket - under 4inch total height would be ideal - I have about 6inch clearance into my garage. Is there a way to mount a basket directly to something like the Yakima/Thule tracks, or ???? HELP!! Thanks!

All of the rooftop metal cargo baskets that we offer can be seen on the link at right. All of these have in common mounting hardware that requires the presence of roof rack crossbars. None of these can directly mount to an aftermarket roof track, like the Yakima # Y01135 that you referenced.

The lowest-profile metal baskets we offer include the Curt # C18115 which is 4-inches deep, but event his basket once mounted on roof crossbars installed on your Jeep TJ, would exceed your 6-inch clearance limit. Even if it just squeaked through your garage door, you would be very limited in the cargo volume you'd be able to load and still clear the garage.

If you were willing to drill holes in your hardtop (which you'd have to do anyway in order to install roof tracks) then you could directly mount a basket without having to first install a roof rack. This might require you to use alternative hardware such as U-bolts to attach the basket, such as # TR-2200. You might be better able to source hardware locally to ensure a good fit.
