Parts Needed To Install Prodigy P2 On 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe And 1998 Chevrolet Silverado
Question:
I have a 2004 Tahoe and 1998 Silverado both have factory tow package but neither have the 7 way plug. I would like to get the Prodigy 2 Brake Controller and be able to swap it between vehicles as I only have one trailer with brakes x2 axles. Would it be possible to send me a full list of items that would be required for this install? Thank you,

We do carry all of the components you need to be able to use the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, that will allow you to be able to use it in your 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe and your 1998 Chevrolet Silverado.
First, for the 2004 Tahoe, you will need part # 3015-P. This harness will plug into the connector located under your dash, to the left of the brake pedal. I have included a photo with the location noted.
You will then need part # 30955. This plug will attach to the connector located above the spare tire under the Tahoe as noted in the attached photo. This will then give you a 4-way and 7-way connector at the rear of your Tahoe.
For your 1998 Silverado you will need to locate the factory tow package wiring harness under the dash. This will be located to the left of the brake pedal and is typically held together with white tape. You just need to pull it down so that you can connect the wires on the brake controller harness.
I recommend a circuit tester like part # PTW2992, to locate the correct wires needed to attach because they will probably not match the brake controller wires by color.
Test the wires and when you find the wire that has a power all the time, connect it to the black wire on the brake controller harness that is included with the P2. Next, find the wire that only carries a signal when the brake pedal is pressed. This wire will attach to the red wire on the brake controller harness. There should be a white wire, which is the ground. Connect it to the white wire on the brake controller harness. The final wire will be blue and should connect to the brake controller blue wire.
I also recommend a slide-in mount for the controller, part # 7686. This will attach to your Silverado and allow you to simply slide the controller in and out when you wish to move it form one vehicle to another.
To put a 7-way at the rear of your Silverado, you will need part # ETBC7. this will connect to the 4-way connector at the rear of your Silverado, and along with additional wiring give you a 4-way and a 7-way connector.
If you do not have a 4-way connector I recommend part # C58044. This is a universal connector and comes with 60-inch, 14-gauge wire.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the connections and helps prevent corrosion.
I have attached links to some installation videos and some help articles you can check out.
