Installing a P2 Trailer Brake Controller on a 2007 Toyota Tundra without Factory Tow Package

Question:

2007 Tundra, Prodigy P2. found white connector under dash by emergency brake. Blue wire comes off this connector and goes almost straight up into dash. I have 7 pin plug I bought earlier, but blue and black wire go to a plug which I cant find any thing to connect to. So how do I get signal from brake controller to back of truck?

Expert Reply:

If your truck didn't come with a 7-Way trailer connector you will need to hardwire the brake controller instead of using a wiring harness. If the truck does not have any trailer connector at all you will start by adding a 4-Way, # C59236. Then you would install a 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7.

If the truck does have a 4-Way trailer connector then you would just need # ETBC7. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation. With the hardwire options you would have to manually run the connection from the brake controller to the back of the truck.

The connector under the dash that you found does not sound like it is compete and it is likely not active since your Tundra did not come with a factory 7-Way trailer connector.
