Difficulty Installing Reese Adapter for 2014 Ram 2500 with OEM Factory Prep Package

Question:

I just received my 30154, and apparently either Im an idiot, or the poor instructions on adjusting this thing arent making sense to me...probably both. The instructions state a 1inch wrench will fit the nut to loosen it to adjust. Nope. But it does fit well enough on the foot side and allows you to loosen them. My quandary is that it appears my feet need to move about 1/8inch towards the side walls, and it appears the feet only move front to back for adjustment. I have a 2014 Ram crew cab short bed with the factory 5th wheel prep. Any ideas what the heck Im doing wrong? Need to get this in tomorrow, so I can go get my 5ver from the local service center and go camping this weekend! : PS - Buy extra cotter pins, they will break on their way out, as told to do in the adjustment instructions.

First, make sure that when you are inserting the Reese adapter # RP30154 into the pucks on your 2014 Ram that the handles are not in the locked position. Installation of this adapter will require some fine tuning due to slight variations from truck to truck.

The 1 inch nuts are 1 inch internal diameter. The actual width of the nut would be greater than that.

When the jam nuts are loose, making the tee pins loose, it should allow you the additional side to side movement that you need to get the unit to fit properly in each puck. If none of the adjustments are working for you it is possible that there is something wrong with the alignment of the pucks or the adapter.

There may be an authorized Reese installer/dealer near you that could take a look to determine if that is the case. I would need to know your zip code to look that up for you.
