Strait-Line Weight Distribution Recommendation for a 2014 Ram 2500 Towing Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel 4X4 which has the stock heavy suspension and 2.5inch receiver. My TT is 6,000 lb dry wt, and 7700 lb loaded, length 28.5. Tongue wt dry is 620 lbs. I am concerned that the 1200 lb/12,000 lb Strait-Line model might be too stiff a ride? What do you think?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow, this figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached an FAQ on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.

Typically tongue weight is 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight. That means your loaded tongue weight will be most likely 770 lbs to 1,155 lbs which would be a perfect range for the Strait-Line Weight Distribution w Sway Control # RP66074 that you referenced as it has a 600-1,200 lb tongue weight range. The ride wouldn't be to stiff at all.
