Weight Distribution for 2007 Fleetwood Cheyenne Pop Up Camper and 2009 Honda Odyssey
Question:
Hi! I have a 2009 Honda Odyssey and we will be towing a 2007 Fleetwood Cheyenne. The hitch is rated for 500# with a weight distributing hitch. The dry tongue weight on the Cheyenne is 130# and loaded is about 260#. What would be the best weight distributing hitch for this set up? My cars owners manual says that one should be used for towing anything over 2,000#. However the dealer is telling me they do not recommend WD hitches on pop ups, only travel trailers, etc. So, Im a little confused. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

The dealer is probably concerned about too much stress on the pop up frame. But as long as you get a system that is rated appropriately for the tongue weight of the trailer then that shouldn't be a problem.
To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
The Pro Series system, # PS49901, is rated for up to 550 pounds tongue weight so it would be a great option for you. This system comes with a 2-5/16 inch ball. If you need a 2 inch ball use # A-90.
