Adding a 7-Way and Brake Controller to a 2010 Toyota Tundra with Factory 4-Way Trailer Connector
Question:
I want to install a 7 pin plug and a brake controller, my truck has a 4 pin flat plug near the bumper, and from there it runs back to around the spare to another plug and then from there it goes into the truck someplace, it has another plug next to it but nothing is plugged into at all on either end. Is this the part I need to install a 7 pin? I have seen other videos of hooking a brake controller to this model truck is just plugging it into a plug already under the dash. Is there another wire I need to buy to plug into that empty plug near the rear of my truck to connect to the brake controller thru the factory plug under the dash?

First, you will need to determine if your 2010 Toyota Tundra has a port under the dash for a brake controller. The port is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. Take a look at the video I have linked that should help you find the connector, if present.
If it is not present then to add a brake controller you will need to do a complete hardwire installation which does require # ETBC7. I have included some links to the right that show and explain the ETBC7 installation.
If the brake controller port is there then you can still use # ETBC7 but you will not follow the instructions exactly the same way as with a complete hardwire. You would use a harness that fits the brake controller and the port on the truck. You would sever the blue wire from the end of the harness that plugs into the truck under the dash and hardwire that to the wire ran up from the ETBC7 to complete the installation.
For a brake controller I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. And if your truck does have the port under the dash you will also need harness # 3040-P
