Brake Controller And Wiring Recommendation For 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan
Question:
On your tekonsha brake controller it says, without factory trailer connector. What does this mean? I have a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan. Also if I install this will it void the warranty on my van in any way? Thanks!

Without Factory Trailer Connector means the vehicle has no 7-way connector at the rear for hookng up a trailer. You may have a 4-way trailer connector on your 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan.
If you have a 4-way connector on the backof your Grand Caravan, then you would need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller, part # ETBC7. This will give you both a 4-way and a 7-way connector at the back of your vehicle. There is some additional wiring that has to be done. I have attached an installation video for the # ETBC7 you can check out.
To provide a stable place for the connector without drilling, I recommend the No-Drill Mount Bracket, part # C57202.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connection and helps prevent corrosion.
If you find that there may not be enough room to connect some of the additional wires to the battery terminals I recommend using the battery side bolt extenders, part # DW05416.
the brake controller I recommend is the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller, part # 90885. This is a proportional brake controller that is our most popular because it is easy to install and use. This controller activates the brake on your trailer when the brake pedal in your towing vehicle is pressed.
If you do not have a 4-way connector at the rear of your Grand Caravan, I recommend the Curt Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # C56150. This plugs directly into your vehicle wiring and will provide you with a 4-way connector. I have attached a link to an installation video for this wiring you can check out.
