Converting a Vintage 1956 Trailer with 6-Way Round Trailer Connector to a 7-Way Connector
Question:
I have a 7 way blade connection on my 2014 tundra and 1956 trailer has a 6 pin round. I have a 7 way to 6 pole adapter. When I test the wiring in the trailer, I end up With several flashing with a turn signal or several hot. Ive been told the reason for this is toyota wires their brake lights and signals differently than American vehicles. Is there an adapter so I dont have to require the entire trailer to match my truck? Ive disabled trailer brakes so all I need to work is running lights, 12v for a dome light and signals.

If your 2014 Toyota Tundra was designed for use in Japan and not the American market what you were told might be true. But since the truck has the 7-Way blade style connector the functions are going to be the standard US spec.
It is more likely that either the adapter is not pinned correctly to match the trailer or the trailer uses a very old and outdated 6-Way round connector and possibly also has separate turn signals from the brake lights (though it is not likely).
I am pretty sure the issue is that the 12 volt circuit on the adapter is mating with the brake output pin or something else on the trailer side connector. The best way to avoid all of this and not have to use any adapter at all would be to replace the trailer 6-Way with a 7-Way, # PK12706.
I have included a picture showing how to wire the 7-Way. Ignore the colors and wire by function. You will need to trace each wire or apply power to each wire to determine the functions of each and attach to the 7-Way accordingly.
