Cargo Box Recommendation for a 2015 Honda Pilot that Won't Interfere with Hatch or Sunroof
Question:
Looking to purchase a roof/cargo cox for my 2015 Honda Pilot Touring. Want something that will not interfere with hatch opening or the moonroof. I liked the Yakima RocketBox Pro 14. Would that work for what I want? Any suggestions? Looking to purchase ASAP, got a road trip coming up, thanks!

In order to determine if there will be enough clearance on the roof of your 2015 Honda Pilot to mount one of the Yakima cargo boxes and it not interfere with the opening of your hatch, you will need to take a quick measurement. I am going to assume that you have a factory installed roof rack and crossbars on your 2015 Honda Pilot. With the front crossbar mounted as far forward as possible, measure from the center of that crossbar to the seam where the roof and the hatch meet. I am attaching a picture that will illustrate this step.
If your measurement is greater than 45 inches, than the Yakima RocketBox Pro 14 Rooftop Cargo Box, # Y07192, will work for you. The attached picture also includes minimum clearance measurements for the other Yakima cargo boxes that are available. Depending on your measurements, you may be able to go with a larger box for additional carrying capacity.
As for whether the cargo box will interfere with your moonroof, we have not had the opportunity to test fit one of the Yakima cargo boxes on a 2015 Honda Pilot so I do not have any specific fit information. Our general recommendation is that if the glass retracts above the roof line, we do not recommend using the moonroof when the cargo box is mounted. I can tell you that the RocketBox Pro 14, # Y07192, that you mentioned, measures 74 inches long. I recommend measuring 74 inches forward from the hatch/roof seam to see where this box will sit. This should give you a good idea as to whether the cargo box will interfere with your moonroof.
