Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2010 Smart fortwo Convertible
Question:
Can I fit a 2inch receiver on my 2010 Smart Fortwo 451 cdi convertible or do I have to stick with a 1-1/4? The reason for asking is, ideally I would like to purchase a folding rear cargo carrier rather than a fixed one.

There are only 1-1/4 Class I hitches available for your 2010 Smart Fortwo. The 2 inch hitches are reserved for vehicles with higher towing capacities like trucks and SUVs. For more info check out the FAQ article I attached on hitch classifications.
The only hitch I can recommend for your vehicle would be the Curt Hitch part # C11020 that you referenced.
With this hitch all non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt. You would want the Curt Stabilizer Strap part # 18050. I attached a review video for this product to show how it is used as well.
For a cargo carrier I would recommend the 20x47 Reese Cargo Carrier part # 63155. I attached a review video for you to check out.
