The first thing you are going to want to do is consult the 2000 Dodge Durango owners manual for the towing capacities of the vehicle. From what I could find the max towing capacity of the vehicle is 7,350 pounds.

Another possible issue is the tongue weight of the trailer which is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. A trailer weighing 9,000 pounds would have a tongue weight of 900 to 1,350 pounds. Both the trailer hitch and the vehicle would have to be rated at least this high for tongue weight.

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

To cover the possible tongue weight range of a 9,000 pound trailer I recommend Blue Ox Sway Pro system, # BXW1500. It is rated for up to 1,500 pounds tongue weight. It comes with built in sway control and a shank. You would need to add a ball though, # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch.
