Troubleshooting Faulty Wiring in the 7-Way Ttrailer Plug On a 2004 Chevy 3/4 Ton
Question:
i have a 04 chevy 3/4 ton hd it has a factory tow package the trailer wire plug on the truck isnt working fully the left turn signal wont work but the tail light works and the right light blinker works the power wire doesnt work eather all the plugs seem to be in tack i am lost please help

The first thing I would check is the tow package fuses in the power distribution box under the hood. If they are blown or missing you will need to put new ones in. Next, for the power wire, you will need to make sure that the red wire is connected to the closest positive post on the power distribution box. If it is not there it can be found between the cab and the fuse box under the bracket in the corner (see link). You should have a connector plugged into the back of the 7-Way connector your rear bumper. If everything is okay under the hood, start by removing this connector and with the help of a friend test all of the circuits in the connector. If you find that all of the functions inside the connector are working then you know the plug is bad and you will need to replace it with either the # HM40975 or the # PK11893, 7-way connector. If the functions are not working at this point then you will need to work your way back the wiring to find the point where there is a problem. You may have a bad ground or a short in a wire somewhere, or sometimes corrosion in the connector is the problem.
