Recommended Gooseneck Adapter For Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

We have a BandW turnover ball in our 2500 Duramax Diesel. We have a fifth wheel. We want to use the gooseneck conversion. Can you use the Kingpin extender and put the gooseneck conversion on the Kingpin extender to get the clearance we need? Our old fifth wheel we had a gooseneck adapter and used a ball that extended towards the tailgate by 4inch We were able to clear the tailgate and the rear window. Our newer fifthwheel is a bit wider so we need more clearance. We are trying to configure the best product - we want the gooseneck rather than fifthwheel hookup. Thanks.

I spoke with my contacts at both B & W and Cequent and both said they could not recommend using a ball adapter at the same time while using a king pin adapter on your fifth wheel. Since manufacturers do not test their parts with other manufacturer's products, they would not confirm it would work.

I do have one recommendation for you though. That would be to replace the standard pin box on your trailer with a Gooseneck adapter. We offer two different adapters. One is part # RP85FR, and it is designed to replace Lippert pin boxes 0719, 1621, and 1621HD, along with Fabex PB-600 Series.

The other adapter is part # RP94716-61301, and it is to replace Lippert 0115, 1116, and 1716. Both of these adapters have a towing capacity of 16,000 lbs. These adapters measure 17-3/4 inches from the center of the ball hole to the first mounting hole as shown in the attached photo.

I have attached a couple of helpful articles about fifth wheels and fifth wheel adapters.
