Differences Between Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR and Vertex # TH9029

Question:

I am inquiring about the difference between the 1. Thule Hitching Post Pro-Tilting 4 Bike Rack with Anti-Sway 1 1/4inch and 2inch hitches and the 2. Thule Vertex 4 bike Carrier for 1 1/4inch and 2inch hitches-folding. What is the difference? Which one is better for my 08 Jeep Wrangler? If you could please advise, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Other than the outward appearance of the more modern-looking Vertex, there are a few other differences between the Vertex # TH9029 and the Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR.

To fold the arms down or to tilt the rack back away from the vehicle, the Hitching Post Pro uses snapper pins that need to be removed, while the Vertex uses quick release latches. Both mechanisms serve the same purpose, but the Vertex latch is easier to use.

Since the Wrangler has the rear mounted spare tire, clearance might be an issue. To determine how much clearance you need, you'll need to measure the distance between the hitch pin hole in the receiver to the furthest rearward point of the spare tire. I've linked you to an article that shows how to do this. For the Vertex to be compatible, the measurement you took needs to be less than 12 inches. The Hitching Post Pro offers a bit more clearance. If your measurement is less than 13-1/2 inches, it'll fit.

Both racks provide an anti-rattle hitch pin, but a locking version is sold separately as part # THSTL2. A cable lock, part # TH538XT is also available.

If you'll be carrying women's bikes or bikes with sharply angled top tubes, you should confider a frame adapter bar like part # 64005. The adapter bar allows the bike rack to attach to the rack so that it is level, or nearly so. This will give you more ground clearance.

Long story short, the the Hitching Post Pro is more utilitarian in design, while the Vertex is a bit more refined. I've linked you to some product demonstration videos which show both racks installed on a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited.
