Can Trailer Hitch Extender hes0 Be Used for Towing with a 2007 Ford Explorer
Question:
Can this hitch extender Hitch Extender For 1-1/4inch Trailer Hitch Receiver 10 be used for towing? An extra 10 inches is what I am looking for to use with a utility trailer with my canoe on it behind a 2007 Ford Explorer. It seems that many people use these extenders for things like bike racks and not actually towing, so I wanted to be sure that it could be used for towing a trailer, just that the towing capacity and tongue weight are reduced 50?

Yes, you can use adapter # hes0 for towing a trailer. It does not sound like your trailer will be all that heavy but keep in mind that the use of an extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.
The adapter itself has a tongue weight capacity of 175 pounds. So whichever is lower, the 175 pound capacity of the adapter or the reduced capacity of the hitch, is the capacity you will need to go by.
The gross trailer weight capacity of the hitch will not be reduced. The adapter has a gross trailer weight capacity of 1,750 pounds.
