Roof Rack and Roof-Mount Bike Carriers for 2008 Honda Fit Sport

Question:

Im trying to figure out which bike racks are compatible with my 2008 Honda Fit Sport. It does not have a trailer hitch installed, so I am mainly interested in roof racks. Could you tell me what I would need to buy to mount 3 or four bicycles on the roof? Thanks in advance.

In order to carry 3 or 4 bikes on your 2008 Honda Fit Sport you will indeed need a roof rack. Trunk mount carriers won't work on your vehicle and the hitches offered for your car are only light-duty Class I types that can handle only two bikes maximum, so a roof rack it is!

I do suggest you refer to your owner's manual (or confer with your local dealership) to confirm the amount of weight the Fit's roof can safely handle. You'll want to be sure the combined weight of the roof rack you select, that of the bike carriers themselves, plus the weight of your bikes all together is within the vehicle's capacity.

The good news is that your Fit Sport can be equipped with any of a wide range of roof rack systems, from basic square bar types to advanced ultra-quiet aerodynamic types. The link provided will let you see all options. Generally the basic square crossbar types will offer the broadest compatibility with a range of bike carriers.

Your most cost-effective option in a square bar rack is the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack # SR1002. This rack includes locks and carries a limited lifetime warranty. Please note that the crossbar spread of this rack is 24-inches.

With a rack like this in place you can use one of the roof-mount bike carriers shown on the link provided. All of these are designed to fit square crossbars. You can use the filters at the left-hand margin to narrow the results based on your preferences and types of bikes to be transported. There are fork-mount racks, as well as frame-mount and wheel-mount types. You have the advantage of being able to select different bike carrier types, if necessary, to suit each of the bikes you'll be transporting.

For example, if one has disc brakes, you can use the filters to see racks that are compatible with disc brake-equipped bikes. The linked article on roof bike racks will help you consider your best options for your particular bikes.
