Can Curt RV/Trailer Hitch # 13703 Have the Cross Tube Welded Directly to the Trailer Frame

Question:

My trailer - Jay feather ultra lite x17A has very low ground, and also dont have enough space for brackets of 13703 between trailer Stabilizer or Jack and bumper. Can I weld the Beam of 13703 instead of bracket on the top of trailer frame? or do you have other recommendation?

Expert Reply:

Curt trailer hitch # 13703 and similar hitches are not meant to have just the cross tube welded on. The brackets attach to more surface area on the frame for greater disbursement of force. You can still use this hitch but you would want to have it professionally installed because the brackets would have to be modified to fit around the obstructions.

Another option is to use a bumper mount hitch such as # E-100. It will fit as long as the bumper on your trailer is 4 inches square, made of steel, and has a continuous weld the length of the bumper. I have included a link to a video review of this hitch for you.
