Curt Brake Controller Not Working Correctly After Moving It From 2006 Silverado to 2001 Model
Question:
Hi, I bought and used the controller and wiring adapter in my 2006 Chevy Silverado for about a year with no problems. I have since purchased a 2001 Silverado and put the controller in it. After install I get a red light to indicate the trailer is not connected. I then connect the trailer and the red light goes out. I can push the manual leaver and the brakes are applied. I can adjust the intensity and it does adjust accordingly. Now for the tricky part. I adjust the Sync control and nothing. From what I understand it is supposed to blink green, but does not, just blank. I step on the brake pedal and nothing. I push the manual leaver and brakes engage properly, push in the brake pedal again, and nothing. I then proceed to check the lights on the trailer to make sure all working, and I suddenly start to hear a wining noise. I look at the controller, and the brakes are engaged.no brake pedal pushed or manual pushed The only way to disengage is to unplug the controller. Plug controller back in, and same as before, wait a while and they engage on their own again. My question is, Did I somehow hook something up wrong, or has the controller gone bad?

If you are using the same wiring adapter in the 2001 as you had in the 2006 Silverado, it would explain the problem you're having. Both model years use the same plug, but after the 2002 model year, GM changed the pinout on the connector under the dash. The 2006 Silverado uses the # C51352 wiring adapter, while the 2001 model would use the # C51342.
I've edited a photo for you showing the difference between the two connectors, you can move the red wire to the correct location by removing the blue clip from the side of the connector, relocating the wire and replacing the clip.
