Which Blue Ox Weight Distribution Hitch & Additional Arms For 3,500 lb to 6,500 lb Trailers

Question:

I am interested in purchasing a Blue OX weight distribution hitch. I will be towing a wide variety of travel trailers weighing anywhere from 3,500 lbs. to approximately 6,500 lbs. Am I better off splitting the difference and buying a single 5,000 lb. system with a 500 lb. tongue weight, or a 4,000 lb. unit and purchase 6k or 7k bars for the larger trailers? Hope that makes sense! Thanks, Ed

Hey Edward,

It does make sense and a single Blue Ox weight distribution hitch isn't going to cut it, as it won't be effective with all those weights. For trailers between 3,500 lbs to 6,500 lbs you're looking at total tongue weights ranging from about 450 lbs to 850 lbs (depending on how the trailers are loaded). So what you'll need is a Blue Ox system and three different arms:

- Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - 5,500 lbs GTW, 550 lbs TW # BXW0556

- Replacement Spring Bars - 750 lbs TW # BXW4006

- Replacement Spring Bars - 1,000 lbs TW # BXW4007

This is what will cover all your bases. The hitch comes with spring bars for 350 lbs - 550 lbs tongue weights, the next set of bars is for 550 lbs - 750 lbs of tongue weights while the last set is for 750 lbs - 1,000 lbs of tongue weight.
