Can I Tow a Cargo Trailer w/ a 2017 Ram 1500?

Hi I am looking to install a towing hitch Dodge ram 1500 2017 3.6 LT. Can I tow a cargo trailer with this truck? What class of hitch do I need for a beginner towing cargo trailer etc. Randall

Yes, you definitely can! I took a look online and your 2017 Ram 1500 has a maximum towing capacity of 7,730 lbs since you have the 3.6LT engine. With this in mind you would need at most a class IV hitch like item # 14374 which has a 2" receiver. Keep in mind you are limited to your truck's towing capacity with this hitch.
If you're not going to be towing over 6,000 lbs then I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch item # e98852. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver that bolts directly to your frame. If you use a weight distribution system the capacity will increase to 10,000 lbs but you can't tow anything over 7,730 lbs.
Please note that both of these hitches only fit the 2017 Ram 1500's without a factory hitch.
