Recommended Roof Rack and Cargo Box for a 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness

My car 2022 subaru outback wilderness I’m looking into the Malone roof rack square bar and Thule Motion XT XL. 1. Will this set up fit outback wilderness 2. Necessity to choose amongst 50in 58in to 60s inch bars. Purpose? 3. Would you have data wind noise with square bar vs. aero bar? Thank you!

Yes, it will! The Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box item # TH629806 will have no issue mounting to square crossbars like the Malone item # MPG201. The only concern would be the rear hatch opening. You need to have the front crossbar 51-1/4" from the line where the roof and hatch meet for it to open fully.

If you're just using the crossbars for a cargo box, I recommend going with the shortest ones available for your Outback which would be the 50" item # MPG201. If you are wanting to throw a bike rack up there too you'd chose the longer 65" ones item # MPG203.

We do not have any data but square bars are going to make more noise then aero bars. If you're concerned about sound then I would go with a comparable aero bar set up with the Curt Roof Rack for Raised Side Rails item # C18118. These mount in a similar way and measure 53-3/8" Long. Sorry we do not have shorter Malone aero bars in black only silver item # MPG215.
