Looking For Replacement Seals For A 40 Year Old Triple Axle Trailer

Question:

I have a trailer with 3 axles with e brakes. i am thinking there are 6k lbs axles. the trailer is about 40 years old and unknown make of trailer or axles. it has split rim hubs. I am looking for the inner 4 grease seals. Each measures 1.93 ID x 2.44 OD x 5/16 thick. Do you sell that seal? I tried part 58846 in Order 120659047. They did not fit over spindle or in the hub.

Hello Robert, sorry to hear the seals you got did not work. Being that this trailer is so old, I am not surprised to hear that finding replacement parts has been difficult.

Looking thru all of the seals we carry, I do not find an exact match, but we have one seal that is quite close. The closest thing that I see is the Grease Seal # 10-40. This has an ID of 1.938" which should be perfect. The OD of this seal is 2.510" though, so it is a hair larger than what you measured. Since we don't have an exact match, this will be the closest thing we have. I will say that generally, I do not recommend trying to use a seal that is not an exact match.

Is there a number stamped on the old seals? This would really help us narrow down your options. Like I said, finding replacement parts for older trailers like this can be tricky. If the correct seals are not available, we would have to recommend replacing the spindles, or the entire axle with something that uses parts that are more readily available.
