What is the Tongue Weight Capacity of Curt Trailer Hitch 13084 for a 2001 Jeep Cherokee
Question:
2001 Cherokee 4WD. Is this a confirmed tongue weight of 500lbs? I will be using it for a motorcycle carrier and the total is 500lbs. I dont want it to tear off from the weight.

Expert Reply:
Yes, the Curt trailer hitch # 13084 is rated for 500 pounds tongue weight. The hitch under went the standard SAE testing procedures that all hitches go through and has received its rating based on that and its design.
Being right at the 500 pound capacity could be trouble. If there is mud on the bike or a miscalculation you would be over the capacity. Easiest way to lighten the load would be to drain the gas in the main tank and remove the battery. Every little bit helps and its better safe than sorry.
Also you will need to consult the vehicle owners manual to make sure the vehicle itself has a 500 pound or greater tongue weight capacity.
