Can The Exterior Pop-Up Roof Vent Be Used In The Open Position To Pressurize Trailer Interior?

Question:

Hi, I am interested in the redline replacement pop up vent. I would be installing it facing forward so that air comes in while traveling to pressurize the trailer/rv. My question is for both the steel and aluminum version, will it withstand hours of driving with wind going against it? Or is there a chance the wind would bend it backward and/or rip it off while I am driving?

I have seen both the Steel # 9106 and Aluminum # RV-626-062 Pop-Up Vents used in a open position to allow the air to blow into the trailer while driving. While I do not see the manufacturer having any kind of speed rating on these I would be hesitant to the speed or having them opening forward depending on the material you are mounting it to. Since some trailers only use fiberglass shells I would not find that material secure enough to hold the vent open while driving. But if you have a steel structure you should not have issues.

We do have the Garnish # 2756 which will give you a clean appearance from inside your trailer.

Mine is a cargo trailer conversion. The shell is aluminum, it is thin, but the vent would be attached to that with screws through the plywood walls inside. I doubt I would be going over 60mph as my tow vehicle isn't particularly strong. Are you thinking that would be problematic. No fiberglass involved.

@RyanH It sounds like you will be fine with both the aluminum and plywood interior. If you have a gap between the aluminum and plywood be sure to have a spacer inserted so it does not deform or damage the aluminum skin. It also would be better to consider using bolts with lock nuts so you will not risk the screws stripping out of the plywood, Since trailers typically do not have any shock absorbers their ride is harsher on the parts and mounting hardware used on the components.
