2023 Volkswagen ID 4 Trailer Hitch Receiver Sizes for a Thule Bike Rack
Question:
Is there a 1.25 inch trailer hitch available for a 2023 VW ID4 Pro? I do not have a factory installed hitch. I will only be using this hitch for a Thule bike rack that I have had for years that goes into a 1.25 inch hitch.

Hi David!
The only hitch receiver size available on aftermarket hitches that fit your 2023 Volkswagen ID 4 use a 2" receiver. I know Thule can be a bit restricting when it comes to what they allow to be used with their bike racks so if you can let me know what rack you have and/or send in some photos I can see if we have a way to make your bike rack compatible with a 2" hitch that won't void the warranty, otherwise you'll have to use an adapter like the Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter # e58YR to continue using your specific bike rack.
When it comes to the hitch receiver, I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT84GR because of the solid bracing from the crosstube to the receiver. We've actually had a chance to install this on a 2023 ID4 so I'm linking that video for your reference.
The hitch installation does require bumper removal though so if that's not something you're comfortable with I'm adding a link to our installer locator so you can see shops in your area that can do hitch installs for you.
