Installing A Brake Controller On A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado
Question:
I purchased a used Tekonsha Brake Controller. I then purchased the appropriate pig tail adapter from you and connected it to the slot under the dash in my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. Nothing happened key on or offtrailer hooked up or not. My question is: is there a way to bench test the Tekonsha Brake Controller Primus IQ? I have a 12v DC power supply and the original pig tail to hook it to but, which leads do i hook up + and - , just to see if it lights up? Next step is to test the plug receptacle in the truck to see if there is power there. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks for listening.

When installing a brake controller on your 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, if you do not have the factory installed 7-way connector, there are some connections that you have to make under the hood. I have attached a helpful article that explains the steps and even has photos that show the locations where these connections need to be made. You can test the brake controller to see if it is working by connecting the black wire to the positive side of the battery, and the white wire to the negative side of the battery. Then use a circuit tester to test the blue wire while operating the manual switch on the controller.
The Primus IQ is a proportional brake controller designed to be used for electric brakes only. The plug-in adapter to use is part # 3015-P.
I have attached a video that shows a brake controller installation on a 2006 Silverado.
