Is There a Way to Increase Towing Capacity of 2022 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hello I need your technical help - again! My questions are regarding towing specs on my 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness. If I understand correctly the vehicle tow rating is 3500lbs with a 350lb tongue weight. I want to tow an Airstream Base Camp 16. I’m told this weighs 2635lbs and has a GVWR of 3500. Tongue weight is 410 - 430. By the numbers it looks like towing this safely is not possible. Is tongue weight set in stone? My solution here is to change springs - Ralitek - and change tires. My thought here is with a higher spring rate and increased number of tire plys I am effectively increasing load capacity… ? I also plan to install one of your brake controllers and a 7-pin. Is this a safe plan or do I need to buy a truck?

There isn't an official way to increase the towing capacity of your vehicle that we can help with. Only Subaru would be able to give an official word on whether or not the capacity could be actually increased but most likely the answer is no. If a truck is in your future plans that would be your best option.
When it's time for a brake controller I really like the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED52VR as it only puts a small knob on the dash of the vehicle and uses an inertia sensor to apply the trailer brakes at same intensity as you apply the vehicle brakes.
