Is A Supplemental Braking System Needed With The Roadmaster Nighthawk Tow Bar

Question:

I have a 2023 jeep Gladiator and if I get the Roadmaster Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar w/ LED Lights - Non-Binding do I need breaking system as well?

The Roadmaster Nighthawk tow bar doesn't have a braking system built into it so you would still need a separate supplemental braking system. The Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency, Portable Braking System # BLU37TR you were looking at would work, but would require you to install a separate 12v outlet # RM-9332 in order to power the unit. With this system being portable you can easily remove it and store it, but you'll have to set it up every single time you want to tow.

If you'd prefer a fixed system that stays in the Gladiator and requires no setup after installation then you'll want to go with a Demco system. They have two separate systems to choose from depending on the brake type of the motorhome. If it has air brakes you'll want the Demco Air Force One # SM99243. If it has hydraulic brakes then you'll need the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251 instead.

Both of these systems have an indicator light to show you when the brakes are being applied that will need to tap into the brake light switch wire of your Gladiator. This wire unfortunately isn't useable in your Gladiator so you'll need to also install the # RM-751497 in order to get the braking signal for the indicator light.
