Do I Need To Install A Voltage Regulator When Installing A MaxxFan Deluxe Roof Vent
Question:
Hi. I note that the Maxxair Deluxe is rated for 12 volts, with a maximum of 13.2 volts. My RV, like a lot of others, raises the habitation system voltage to 14.4 volts, even 14.6 volts, whilst bulk charging the habitation batteries from either solar, mains, or even from the engine alternator. Will this affect the Maxxair electronics and fan, or is a voltage regulator the safer option. Please note: Some UK installers are claiming that the unit will be damaged by anything over 13.8 volts and if that happens, the warranty is void - see bottom of attached image although I dont really see how they can use that excuse if they knowingly install it in a vehicle where the 12 volt circuit ALWAYS peaks at 14.4 volts during a charging cycle.

This should not be an issue that will effect your MaxxAir Vent Fan. The voltage to the fan will really never be that high. It is typical to see those higher voltages when charging, but there will be enough voltage drop between the battery and the fan that you wont see a voltage spike over 13.8v. Unless you were having the vent installed on a much smaller vehicle, I wouldn't worry about a voltage regulator. Although you certainly could add one for peace of mind, we do not carry anything like that here at etrailer.
