Recommended Lift Assist Kayak Carrier for Thule Crossbars on a Truck Cap

Question:

I have a 2019 Ford F-150 with a cap. Currently have cradle kayak racks but with age, difficult to load and unload. Looking at the easy loading system, side up and down, currently carrying two kayaks with plenty of room on cap with rails and Thue cross bars. Any advice?

I think the Yakima ShowDown Kayak Roof Rack and Lift Assist w/ Tie-Downs item # Y04081 would solve your loading problem. Compatibility won't be an issue it fits round, square, aero, and elliptical crossbars. You will need to take a measurement to make sure it'll work properly with your cap's Thule cross bars.

I have attached a diagram below to illustrate this. The ShowDown item # Y04081 requires a minimum of 3-1/2" of crossbar length past the mounting legs for the lift assist function to work properly and not hit the side of your truck.

Additionally, the ShowDown item # Y04081 requires 38" of crossbar space. If you are going to continue to transport two kayaks and purchase two lift assist carriers you will need crossbars that are a minimum of 76" wide.

If you have any additional questions feel free to email me back directly.
