Help Determining If Trailer Axle Hangers Were Welded On In The Correct Position

Question:

I have a utility trailer, DIY. Today, I measured my leaf spring brackets just to see if everything was good to go. I measured from the edge of the front frame to the front leaf spring bracket edge. One side, measured 44 inches. The other side measured 44 1/16th. Its already welded. What should I do? Is it bad to use the trailer now? Thanks.

To verify if you will need any kind of Alignment Kit # LC87120 you are going to need to measure from a common point to your hanger bolt centers. The frame may be slightly out of square or you could also have one brackets which are not identical which is throwing off your measurement. I recommend measuring from the center of the coupler ball attachment to the hole on the suspension hangers. These measurements should be identical to ensure the trailer tracks straight and you do not get excessive wear on your tires. If the measurement is off the Alignment Kit # LC87120 will allow you to move where the leaf spring mounts by 1/8" increments. So if you still find it off by 1/16" that is going to be close enough and the alignment kit would not change the positioning of the axle.
