If Only One Rooftop AC Unit Out Of Two Goes Bad Do Both Need To Be Replaced

I have an RV with two roof ac units. The rear unit is bad. Do I have upgrade both ac units or just upgrade the bad?

If only one unit isn't keeping up then you can replace just that one unit without having to replace both. You'll just need to determine how the bad unit connects to the system to figure out the best replacement option. It will typically be a 6 or 9-pin connector, but some times Dometic units can be hardwired. If this is the case then you'll need to contact Dometic to determine what the wire functions are to accurately connect a new unit. You'll also need to reach out to the manufacturer of the new unit to determine its wire functions as well.

Since we don't know the BTU rating of the current unit you'll also want to remove the shroud and check the label (typically on the driver's side of the unit) for the rating. I've listed out some options below based on the connector style and BTU rating:

13,500 BTU's
6-pin # FR26PR
9-pin # FR82PV

15,000 BTU's
6-pin # FR58PR
9-pin # FR42PV
