Can Dual Wheels On 10K Dexter Axles Be Changed Over To Super Single 17.5" Wheels and Tires?

Question:

I want to replace dual tires on a backhoe trailer to super singles and 17.5 tires. What offset do I need and do I need the new wheel nuts? What is on now is 1 ton dually wheels I think they are 8x6.5. Its about a 1980 trailer with 10k axles.

Expert Reply:

I recommend going with a wheel like the Taskmaster Modular Wheel in White # TA36MR or Silver # TA35ZR. These wheels only have a 0.08" positive offset keeping the center of the Provider 235/75R17.5 Radial Trailer Tire # P35175 in line with the center position of your dual tires. This helps keep the trailer stable. Both wheels above are designed to fit with 5/8" studs and have a Flange Nuts # LI84FR to hold the wheel since it has a hub centric design. You will need to verify if you have the larger diameter studs on your axle and your hub pilot fits a 4.76" wheel opening.
