Recommended Hitch and 7-Way Connector for a 2024 Subaru Outback

Question:

I am also looking for a tow hitch to fit to a 2024 Subaru Outback. In addition, I also need a 7 pin connector set up so I can tow a small tear camper. Less than 1500 lbs. Please help! Im not good with this sort of thing, and I want to do it correctly. Also, could you supply a name or 2 of a company local to the Cleveland area where I can get it installed?

To add a hitch to your 2024 Subaru Outback, I recommend the etrailer Hitch item # e25TR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Subaru with included hardware. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It has a 3,500 lbs towing capacity and a 350 lbs maximum tongue weight.

I really like this hitch because it mounts behind the rear bumper cover leaving only the 2" receiver visible. This helps with ground clearance and it looks better.

To install a 7-Way harness on your 2024 Outback you will need two separate wiring harnesses because they don't make just one that'll do the job.

The first harness you'll need is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56040. This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your Subaru's wiring harness, which is located behind the interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. This will provide you with a 4-flat connector.

The second harness you will need is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.

Since your trailer requires a 7-way connector you will most likely need a brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer's brakes when your Subaru decelerates.

The Tow-Pro Liberty is the best option is because of its unique installation method where the only visible portion is the control knob that's about the size of a nickel. The main unit is hidden away inside your dash to be completely out of the way and out of sight.

To complete your installation you will need the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers item # RED69FR.

To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.

To find a reputable installer in the Cleveland area you will want to go to the left side of any of the product pages I have just recommended and scroll down below the pictures and videos. There you will find a blue link that says Locate installers near me. You will want to put your zip code in. Once you do this you will be connected to our network of installers.
