Can Brake Flange Be Installed on 3.5K Dexter Axle to Add Electric Brakes

Question:

Hello, I am looking to add electric brakes to a utility trailer that does not currently have any or the brake mount flanges. Is it possible to weld the flanges and add the brakes or can I buy an entire axle assembly with the brakes already installed? It is a Dexter axle, #38325, 3500 lb capacity. HF=84.00 inches and SC=70.00 inches.

Yes, you can just have the Brake Mounting Flange for 2-3/8" Round Axle # 4-35 welded onto your axles and then you can add the brakes and hub/drums to wrap up the entire setup:

- Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA (1 per axle)
- Hub/Drum Kit # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K (2 per axle)

There are some kits you can get that come with everything but if you want to go with one of those kits from us then the only thing we have available for your HF and SC is the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension Kit # A35RS545E, which comes with a completely different suspension system. It's an improvement over the standard leaf spring suspension but you're also looking at much more of a price tag than some of the other options.

Be sure to pick up everything else you need to get electric brakes setup on your trailer. I'm attaching a helpful article that goes over the parts needed in case you don't have everything.
