What Circuit Does Red Wire of Brake Controller Attach To

I have a 2021 GMC Acadia SLT that did not come with a trailer package but has all the wiring and a hitch hitch installed by dealer. I added a trailer brake and everything works except when I hit the brakes there is no signal to the brake controller from the vehicle. I brought it to my local auto shop and they indicated all fuses and connections look correct and may be a problem with the computer of the vehicle. They said it may have to have the brake signal “activated” in the computer? Is there something else or is this accurate? Thank you.

I would hammer a little harder on what circuit they attached the red wire to of the brake controller. It was supposed to attach to a circuit that only has voltage when the brakes are applied. If they attached it to a random circuit and didn't verify it had voltage that would definitely be why.
