Recommended Bike Rack for a 65 lb E-Bike For a 2013 Ford Taurus

Question:

I recently bought a 65-pound e-bike. I have a 2013 Taurus. Is there a truck-mount that can use to transport a Velotric Discover 1 e-bike? Thanks.

No, no trunk mounted bike rack is going to be able to hold a 65 lb e-bike unfortunately. Your best bet is to use a hitch mounted bike rack because that is going to give you a lot more options and capacity.

It's kind of a big undertaking, but you'd need to install a hitch first if you don't have one. I'd recommend sticking with a class III hitch because just about everything is designed to be used with a class III hitch, plus the weight capacities tend to be a bit better.

If you're looking for a nudge in the right direction, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13379 is a great option. This is a class III hitch with a nice 4,000 lbs GTW and a 400 lb tongue weight capacity, so you'll have plenty of room for activities.

Finally for a bike rack, I'd recommend going with the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # HLY84FR.

This bike rack has an 80 lb per bike capacity, for a total of 160 lbs when used as a two bike rack. I know you don't need a two bike rack but all of the single bike racks we have seem to top out at 60 lbs, so if there isn't a way to lighten your bike then you'd need to use a two bike rack.
