Troubleshooting Power Loss Code On The Tekonsha Prodigy P3
Question:
Hi. I bought a Tekonsha P3 from e trailer a while ago. Almost from the beginning it will either have a blank screen or say power loss more often than working properly. It has the proper harness that was a direct plug into factory 2012 tacoma wiring harness. Can you please offer any help with this problem. I tow in mountains in Arizona and very concerned with this problem. Thanks for your time. Mike

There are a few things that can cause the power loss code to flash on the Tekonsha P3 # 90195. The first thing I would want to check is your ground. The Tekonsha adapter for 2012 Tacoma 3040-P does have its own independent ground wire. Double check your ground and make sure you are grounded to a clean metal surface. Sometimes even paint can mess with the ground. A bad ground would certainly explain the issue you are having.
The cause has to lie somewhere in the wiring between the controller and your battery. It does not sounds like a defective controller. I also recommend going in with a wire probe like # PTW2993 and test the black power wire coming off of the controller. Leave the probe connected for a few minutes and make sure you are getting consistent 12v power. You may as well test the red wire as well to make sure it is only hot when the brakes are applied. If anything is out of the ordinary here I recommend taking your car to a certified mechanic for inspection.
