Should a Trailer Hub Be Completely Filled With Grease After Being Installed On Spindle?
Question:
I just received hydraulic brake drums for my boat trailer which came pre-greased. There is plenty of grease around the bearings, but the center of the hub doesnt appear to be packed. Should this center hollow space be completely filled with grease? Thanks.

Helpful Expert Reply:
Yes, you want your entire hub completely filled with grease. This prevents the grease from being flung out of the bearings. If your spindle does not have a grease zerk like the # TRU74FR to fill the hub with grease you can use a device like the Bearing Buddy # BB1980A-SS to fill the hub. This particular bearing buddy fits a hub bore of 1.980.
A Grease Gun # L30416 will allow you to fill the hub with Grease # L11390 with either the grease zerk on the spindle or the Bearing Buddy.
