Can 2017 Ram 2500 Short bed With Ram Boxes Tow Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

Recommended hitch set up for a 2017 ram 2500 with ram box to pull a 5th wheel camper? Haven’t bought the truck yet just looking at my options. I understand that the ram box will limit options, which I guess is why I’m asking. To see if the extra storage built into the bed is worth the extra price and limited options for the hitch and camper hook up

The problem with the Ram Box is that is that it puts the rails of the bed too close together and it causes interference with the pin box of the trailer around corners.

You will need to remove the pin box of the trailer and replace it with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinders move the pivot point up higher so around corners instead of hitting the bed rails the trailer turns above them. Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one if available.

For a rail kit you would want a custom fit kit like the part # RP50054-58 which will minimize drilling and install time. For a hitch then that will give you excellent king pin contact you would want the part # RP30928.
