Question:

I have a 5 ton military trailer with air assit hydraulic drum brakes single axle converted to a log carrier. I have a 2000 Dodge 2500 4 wheel diesel with factory 7 way trailer plug. I am looking for best option for possible elect over hydraulic control of the drum brakes.

From a price, performance and reliability standpoint, I would recommend the Carlisle HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator for drum brakes, part # HBA-10. You would also need a breakaway kit like the # 50-85-313 offered by Tekonsha as well as an in-cab brake controller that is electric over hydraulic compatible, like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, part # 90885 or the P3, part # 90195. Both controllers are electric over hydraulic compatible, but the P3 is a bit more user-friendly for those who are not familiar with brake controllers. To install the controller, you would need the brake control wiring adapter, part # 3020-P. The controller would install as outlined in the install video I have linked you to.

The HBA-10 is compatible with typical 3/16 inch brake lines.
